On 25th May 2018, we collaborated with Sahapedia, as part of their wonderful Museum Walk Initiative, with a custom explorative tour at Bitm Kolkata on 'How Things Move: Machines, Mechanisms & Transport + Fun Math Puzzles' for children of Magic Bus Foundation in Kolkata.
Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM) is the first science museum in the country under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) & popularises and promotes science through its interactive models, exhibitions, educational programmes and activities throughout the year.
The children were intrigued as we explored the workings behind the movement of machines, mechanisms and transport at the Museum's Motive Power and Transport Gallery and solved some math puzzles at the Maths
After the walk, we facilitated an interactive exchange on how children could use these basic principles to innovate and make simple machines in the real world through demonstration of our models and hands-on learning. The most fun part was making paper planes and testing them for speed and distance traveled! Some children made tetrahedron out of acrylic cut-outs and some even ventured in making a simple bridge using wooden sticks, nuts and bolts using the principle of simple linkages.
